Junior rugby league star Charli Berghauser ran out with her beloved Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium last night, just 38 days after having brain surgery.
Charli’s mum Kas Humphry said she couldn’t believe the progress the Year 5 pupil had made, adding to be able to run out at Suncorp Stadium was a massive feat.
Humphry said Charli was exceeding doctors’ expectations every day.
“I’m so proud of her and how far she has come,” Humphry said.
“Last night was so exciting (despite the Broncos losing by one point).”
Men of League Foundation Queensland wellbeing manager Mark Bunting said the Foundation, in conjunction with the Broncos, wanted “to share some happiness and joy with Charli and her family, who have been through so much lately”.
“Charli’s favourite team is the Broncos and her favourite player Ali Briggenshaw was there to share the moment too,” Bunting said.
“I could see by the smile on her face when she ran out what a special experience it was for her – one which she will remember for a lifetime.
“I can’t thank the Broncos enough for what they have done for Charli.”
Humphry said Charli, who aims to run out with her team at Jimboomba Thunder next season, was very happy to meet up with Brigginshaw.
“Thank you Men Of League Foundation, thank you Ali Brigginshaw, thank you Broncos,” Humphry said.
